Many places claim to be dog friendly – hotels, parks, shops, even entire towns – but when it comes to dining, there are few and far between that actually practice what they preach. Fortunately, for our furry friends that frequent the South Bay, there is an establishment that encourages inter-species dining.
Nelson’s at Terranea in Palos Verdes is a casual dining venue, one of seven restaurant options at the resort. The freestanding structure is situated on a bluff overlooking the Pacific with magnificent views of Catalina.
On clear, windswept days you can see the Channel Islands and during the migration season you may glimpse a few whales.
You’ll need to work up an appetite before sitting down to eat, so take your canine companion by the leash for a stroll along the cliff path. It winds down to Terrenea Cove, a private beach where rolling around in the sand and digging are traditional pastimes.
Nestled between the outdoor patio and the deep, blue sea is a hard-pack area dotted with picnic tables and a fire pit that welcomes dogs.
No self serve here – a full wait staff and menu are available for your dining pleasure. Enjoy a microbrew and choose from a variety of regional Southern California comfort foods while taking in one of the best views in the South Bay
This is a very popular place on the weekends and the tables are no longer first-come, first-serve, so be sure to check in with the hostess.
You and your four-legged friend never had it so good.
