Bowl-A-Thon Raises Funds for Families Affected by Cancer

March 30, 2016

Approximately 250 attendees and participants came together on Saturday, March 12 and raised over $48,000 for Walk With Sally.

Throughout the day, Vox DJs pumped up the crowd with a set list while other musical highlights included a kick-line dance and a bowling team dance-off which gave the winning team a group trip. Attendees were able to participate in a silent auction filled with wine, hotel stays, sports memorabilia, weekend trips, and much more. To help liven up the event was lifestyle influencer and celebrity host Dawn McCoy, Brooke Marston editor of Charity Girl Problems, and child actor, Jadon Sand of Disney’s Frozen.

Walk With Sally’s Bowl-A-Thon is a fun-filled fundraising event for the entire family. In it’s ninth year and going strong, families, friends, schools, corporations, pastors, coaches, and neighbors attend year after year to help Walk With Sally raise money for children and families impacted by cancer. This year’s Superhero theme had teams and attendees sharing who their hero was, along with dressing as their favorite superhero. Teams were challenged to raise money leading up to the event and the team that came out on top was “South Bay Villains” who raised $8,241 for Walk With Sally.

Welcome Our New Sponsor

March 29, 2016

The South Bay by Jackie family is THRILLED to welcome our new local sponsor, the Automobile Driving Museum (ADM)!

Anyone that visits my website knows what a fan I am of this AMAZING facility located right here in our South Bay. It’s one of the most ‘user friendly’ museums I’ve ever been to. Museums, as a rule, don’t want people to get close to exhibits, and no touching is ever allowed. Not only can guests can get up close to the impressive, rotating collection of 130 classic, antique and historic cars on display, they can take a ride in them every Sunday! This may be the only museum in the world that offers this one-of-a-kind experience.

Check out their ad just to the right of this post, click through to the ADM home page and be sure to plan a visit soon!

The ADM is a non-profit organization and offers a variety of ways for you to lend your support. A donation of $5 per adult is suggested and children are admitted free.

The ADM is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For additional information, visit the website at www.automobiledrivingmuseum.org or call 310-909-0950.

Great Maple @ Del Amo

March 28, 2016

IMG_4105I swear this is a restaurant review. It’s just going to take me some time to get to the part about food.

FYI – I’m not much of a shopper – but on occasion, I do need to head to the mall to stock up on certain items all in one fell swoop….a particular brand of lipstick, a pair of ballet flats, maybe a new LBD for an event.

Whether you are a veteran shopper, or someone like me that only goes when necessary, we’ve all experienced the ‘shopping coma’. (Read More)

Happy Easter!

March 27, 2016

Happy Easter everybody!

There is no shortage of egg hunts and other festivities happening throughout the South Bay today. (See my round up here: http://www.southbaybyjackie.com/south-bay-easter-egg-hunts/)

Once the baskets are full of goodies, it’s time for brunch with family and fashionable friends decked out in pastels and fancy head gear. You can bet I’ll be wearing by BIG hat today! (It’s really the only day of the year you can pull this off.)

Afterward, if the weather is fine, a stroll along the Esplanade or Strand is just the thing to burn a few calories before enjoying all those sweet treats.

Have a lovely Easter Sunday!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

March 17, 2016

Did you know that approximately 15% of American citizens proudly trace their ancestry to the Emerald Isle?

The Irish have influenced this country for hundreds of years so it should come as no surprise to find Irish culture and customs around every corner.

Fortunately for the other eighty-five percent of the population, the Irish are a big-hearted bunch and when it comes to celebrating, encourage people of all cultures to discover the Celtic within.

The Wearing of the Green is a time-honored tradition. Don’t be surprised to find yourself ordering corned beef and cabbage, savoring a pint of Guiness, singing Danny Boy and kissing perfect strangers.

Ya gotta love the Irish! Erin go Bragh!
